Tangy & Herby Pizza Sauce
Ever felt like your pizza sauce was missing that little “Oomph”? Maybe you’ve tried the jarred stuff, but it always seems to leave you wanting more. Well, hold on to your pizza peel, because this sauce recipe is going to take your homemade pizza game to the next level.
Ingredients
- 1 can (15 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar
- 1 tsp sugar (optional)
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp dried basil
- ½ tsp dried thyme
- ¼ tsp red pepper flakes
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- 1 tbsp chopped fresh parsley or basil (optional)
Instructions
- Sauté Aromatics: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, warm the olive oil. Add minced garlic and cook for about 1 minute until fragrant.
- Mix the Base: Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, balsamic vinegar, sugar (if using), oregano, basil, thyme, and red pepper flakes. Stir until combined.
- Simmer Away: Lower the heat and let the sauce simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Taste and season with salt and pepper as needed.
- Finish with Freshness: If you’re feeling fancy, stir in the chopped fresh herbs just before serving.
- Ready to Spread: Let it cool slightly, then spread generously over your pizza dough.
