Instructions

  1. Prepare the Hot Dog:
    • Slice the hot dog in half lengthwise so you have two thinner pieces.
    • Heat a skillet over medium heat and add a small pat of butter.
    • Place the hot dog halves cut-side down and cook for 2–3 minutes until browned. Flip and cook the other side for an additional 2 minutes. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
  2. Butter the Bun:
    • Spread the softened butter evenly on the outside surfaces of the hot dog bun.
    • If you’d like, spread a thin layer of mustard or ketchup on the inside surfaces for extra flavor.
  3. Assemble the Grilled Cheese:
    • Place the hot dog bun in the skillet buttered-side down.
    • Open it slightly and sprinkle about half of the shredded cheddar cheese inside the bun.
    • Lay the cooked hot dog halves on top of the cheese, then sprinkle the remaining cheese over the hot dogs.
  4. Cook the Grilled Cheese:
    • Close the bun gently to create a sandwich and press it lightly with a spatula.
    • Let it cook for about 2–3 minutes on one side, until golden brown and crispy. Carefully flip the sandwich using a spatula, pressing gently again, and cook for another 2–3 minutes until the cheese is fully melted and the outside is golden and toasty.
  5. Serve:
    • Remove the hot dog grilled cheese from the skillet and let it cool slightly before cutting it in half.
    • Serve immediately with a side of pickles, chips, or your favorite dipping sauce.
