Navigating Algorithm Changes in 2025
Every day people theorize about the algorithm and what content/features will get you the most traction. What we don’t talk enough about is what to do when your posts stop hitting your target audience.
This year has already shown us that social media can be unreliable and you may find yourself having to rebuild your audience or find them again.
Algorithm changes mean that the people who may have consistently seen your content in the past aren’t being shown your posts. This can be alarming, especially when you’re working tirelessly to build a loyal audience, but it isn’t the end of the world.
So what do you need to keep in mind when addressing algorithm changes?
The Time Of Year
There are occasions when your audience is simply looking for different types of content. Many times, it’s at the beginning of the year when new resolutions come into play.
In election years this can also be a big reason because political content is being consumed and, therefore, pushed more
Timing is half the battle when it comes to social media and growing your audience.
Taking note of current events, holidays, and other calendar-related happenings, you might get more insight into when your audience is most active and receptive to what you’re putting out.
Your Audience Isn’t Gone
It may seem like your audience just disappeared off the face of the earth but, don’t worry, they are still there!
It could be a wide variety of reasons why your content isn’t reaching them. It could be anything from a platform pushing new features, you’ve changed your content or strategy in some way, or maybe they have new pain points that you aren’t addressing.
There are too many possibilities to list but the most important thing is that you go back to the drawing board and start experimenting with your content so you can get back in front of your audience and they can rediscover you.
Don’t Throw Away Your Content
While you’re reconsidering your strategy and testing what is going to work to regain your audience, don’t throw away the content you already have.
Chances are you could rework it into your new content strategy or at least take inspiration from it for the future.
Who knows, maybe once people rediscover you, you’ll be able to use that earlier content to nurture your audience again.
Some people think that social media is a matter of luck while others believe it is a strict science based on your analytics and audience habits. Honestly, it’s probably a little bit of both.
While luck may play into it a bit, keeping track of your stats and knowing your audience and how to relate to them will serve you far more than posting a bunch of content and just praying that it works.
